Bedouin Culture

Bedouin Crafts

Sinai has been home to Bedouin tribes for hundreds of years and holds the secrets to living in the desert.

"Where there is water there is life" and only these people now all the places where water and the desert meet. Our bedouin culture page describes some of the secrets of the Sinai desert and life in today's Sinai.

A woman weaving a carpet in a Sinai mountain village. Bedouin handicrafts are made by the women in Sinai, using beautiful designs passed down through generations and are still made in the traditional way.

We have been doing special projects with Bedouin women in Dahab and South Sinai since 2007 including developing new designs for handicrafts and selling their work under a fair trade agreement.

Sustainable Tourism since 2006

We are committed to sustainable and responsible tourism and working towards adoption of guidelines set out by the world trade organisation and The Travel Foundation. Our responsible tourism policy is almost complete and we are already keen recyclers and eco friendly supporters. We have been working with our local Bedouin community since 2006 and have been proud to promote the local culture to our visitors and overseas. We are members of the Travel Foundation (a uk based travel NGO) working with tourism resorts and companies to improve sustainable practises and we will soon be dedicating a web page to our work in this area.

Please make a donation to the travel foundation to help to care about the places you love http://www.thetravelfoundation.org.uk/index.php?id=203
