Snorkeling - for those who want to explore the beautiful coral gardens but want to stay on the surface. Most of Dahab's dive sites are great for snorkeling. We have a list of those suitable and can arrange transportation and equipment hire. Some sites require a high tide as the reefs close to the coast are shallow. We recommend you wear fins or reef shoes/boots to protect yourself from the possibility of treading on sea urchin or stone fish. The popular Eel Garden Dive Site is almost our house reef so can be accessed easily from our guest house.
Diving is one of Dahab's top attractions and there are a number of dive
centres offering all levels of PADI,
CMAS and TECHNICAL diving courses. We use an excellent Dive Centre called
Desert Divers - check their web site
Desert Divers for more information. and we also have a PADI Dive
Master on site to assist you in finding the right package for you. For
more diving information also see our Dahab
Guide and Dive Safaris pages.

Free
Diving is a practice of holding your breath underwater whilst diving down,
staying at the bottom for a few seconds then coming back up to the surface.
It requires some guidance initially but once you become confident it is
easy to free dive on your own. Free diving is becoming increasingly popular
and world free diving records have now been broken here in Dahab. You
can improve your technique by practising regular breathing exercises and
classes's are recommended. Beginner to expert courses are available and
should be booked in advance.
There are at least
270 'wind days' per year for wind surfers to pick up some speed and wind
surfing is very popular as Dahab is a great place to learn. The Lagoona
offers an excellent site for wind surfers and on fridays there is usually
a wind surf competition held here. Wind surfing around the lighthouse
area is also good when the wind is right.
We can provide more details of the courses and options available as advanced booking is recommended for learner courses.
With Dahab's excellent
wind factors kite surfing is taking off here. From beginner to expert
courses and equipment hire are available. Most of the kite surfing takes
place in the Lagoona area due to safety and reef conservation. Advanced
kite surfers only can also kite surf at Sheikh Salem House. Advanced booking
is recommended for all kite surfing as there are very few schools offering
courses or equipment hire. We can provide more information and booking
for courses, contact us for details.
Kayaking is a great
way to explore the red sea and even better if you take a snorkel and mask
with you. Then you can jump out and have a peek below. Kayaking is possible
most days but it is not recommend when it is really windy.
You can rent a kayak by the hour from Sheikh Salem House. From here conditions permitting you can kayak to Eel Garden and Lighthouse or North to the Canyon within about 1 hour. During calm conditions it is possible to kayak to Blue Hole or South to the Lagoona. Hire a kayak for a few hours and take some lunch and snorkel with you so that you can jump off and snorkel anytime you like!
Kayak safaris can also be organised, kayaking in the Wadi Gynae area or at Nabq national park is excellent as there are mangrove lakes to explore. Advance booking is recommended for Kayak Safaris.
Pedlos are
boats powered by peddles, similar to riding a bike. Great fun if your
feeling energetic and a great way to see more of Dahab. You can take snorkels
and masks with you and jump into the sea. Hire one for a couple of hours
and see the whole of Dahab from the sea. We recommend doing this before
sunset and watch the sunset over Dahab from the sea. Rent by the hour
from fresh fish restaurant near the lighthouse dive site., this a great
way to see more of Dahab from the sea.
Yoga/Zen Diving - A powerful combination of Yoga and Diving makes for an amazing and unforgettable dive experience.
